1993 (#26) - April's meetings with the support group and Robert's threats

A few months after Paul's last visit to April, she returns to town with Heather. April, in tears, confesses to Paul and Mary that she is fed up with Robert's constant violence, which is getting worse and worse and he takes out all his anger and stress on her. Paul keeps his instincts in check to leave immediately for New York to teach Robert a lesson, but convinces April to stay as long as necessary in Genoa City. In addition, Paul and Mary advise the woman to seek legal help from Christine, who immediately takes April's situation to heart. Christine and Paul, thus, urge the woman to attend the meetings of a support group for women who suffer violence. April and Heather spend happy and peaceful moments in Genoa City, and Paul does not hide his desire to take care of them, proposing to April to stay in town, admitting that he has feelings for her. April seems undecided, but when Robert returns to contact her informing her that he has discovered that she is not visiting her parents at all, and that he suspects that she is instead staying with Paul, a terrified April decides to suspend her meetings and hurriedly returns to New York, where she finds an enraged Robert waiting for her, who doesn't fail to beat her up again and accuse her of cheating on him with Paul. The latter, along with Mary and Christine, are once again disconsolate by April's sudden departure, towards whom they are increasingly worried despite the fact that she reassures everyone that Robert would never hurt Heather. This behavior, that is, defending one's aggressor by continuously justifying him, is typical of women who suffer violence and are victims of family abuse.

1982 (#7) - The discovery of Barbara's identity, the departure with April for New York

The relationship between Bobbie and Paul, meanwhile, continues and it's not long before the boy begins to suspect that Bobbie may be April's twin sister Dorothy had mentioned a few years earlier. Incredible is in fact the resemblance between the two girls. Paul decides to start investigating, and when he asks the girl about her family, Bobbie admits that her real name is Barbara Ann Harding and that she recently left New York, where she lives with her mother Elizabeth. After Paul's insistent questions, Barbara then admits that she knows she was adopted and has arrived in Genoa City precisely because she hopes to meet her adoptive father, William Harding, now divorced from Elizabeth, after many years, to ask him about her real parents. It is Paul then who makes the decision to inform April that he has discovered the identity of his sister and that he has found her, and his ex-wife contacts Barbara by phone to meet. Paul introduces Barbara to April and Dorothy, who admits to recognize her as his daughter. Everyone is overjoyed to meet Wayne and Dorothy's daughter again, and April herself is intrigued to learn all about her twin sister, who apparently enjoys much greater wealth than her family. Barbara tells about her life in New Yok and how she has always lived with her mother Elizabeth, whom everyone would like to meet. Wayne and Dorothy, determined to reunite the whole family and put their stay in Genoa City behind them, decide to leave and move with April, Barbara and Heather to New York, to live together with Elizabeth who now lives alone. Before leaving, Heather and April warmly greet Paul, who wishes him all the best for their life; April also says goodbye to Greg, who was still hoping to start a new relationship with the girl.

1981 (#13) - Greg's steps back, Paul's choice and his marriage to April

Things for little Heather, meanwhile, are not going well and, soon, they get dramatically complicated. April is increasingly worried about her daughter's fate and Greg feels helpless as he is unable to help the young girl. As the doctors mistake him for the girl's father, Greg becomes increasingly uncomfortable making it clear that he is not the girl's biological father. Some time later, realizing that Heather would need more frequent transfusions than April alone can provide, Greg becomes convinced that the only solution for April and Heather's sake is to convince Paul to stay close to them. So he tries to track Paul down through his ex-wife Nikki, who informs him that she has ended her relationship with the man; Greg is doubly happy about this, both for the feeling that still binds him to Nikki, to whom he has never stopped loving, and for the fact that there is hope that Paul can get back with April. Greg, by leveraging Paul's pride, convinces him to behave like a man and visit his daughter in the hospital; in fact, Greg puts aside all his disagreements with the man, whom he hates since he considers him the man who ruined the life of his ex-wife Nikki, for the sake of April and especially Heather. At the hospital Paul meets April, who desperately cries on his shoulder, asking him for help. Eventually Paul becomes emotional and agrees to recognize his daughter and donate blood to her. Paul's gesture does not of course leave Paul and April's family indifferent, as they finally get to know each other. Dorothy and Wayne are happy to meet Paul, Mary and Steven, who exchange greetings and push for Paul to act like a man and marry April. Even Greg, who is in love with April, understands that the right thing, at this difficult time, is to give priority to Heather's biological family, and in the end he manages to convince Paul to assume his responsibilities as a man by marrying the mother of his daughter. Soon, as Heather's condition improved, April and Paul declared their eternal love before the moved eyes of their respective families, proud of Paul's beautiful gesture.

1980 (#26) - Heather's birth, April's doubts and Dorothy's revelations.

As the months go by, April's day of childbirth comes closer and closer to the end of the pregnancy. The young woman is excited about the imminent birth of her daughter, and Chris stands by her more and more, reassuring her that she will be a great mother, even though April feels incapable and not ready to raise a child all by herself. Because of this, April begins to seriously consider giving her daughter up for adoption, despite Chris trying to talk her out of it. Meanwhile, still through Chris, April meets Greg and a deep friendship is established between the two of them. Both say they are disappointed by their love life, and Greg can't believe that the Paul who got April pregnant and then ran away is the same one his wife Nikki has always been attracted to. Inevitably, feelings develop between the two of them as a result of the closeness of their characters, even if both stop as soon as there is an exchange of a few kisses between them. On the occasion of the birth, Dorothy and Wayne also return from New York, who can't wait to take the unborn child's arm and get to know the father's identity. April confesses to Chris and Greg that she hasn't yet told their parents that Paul has abandoned her and that she probably will not recognise the baby, so Chris tells April to stand up and confess to her family. Just when April is revealing the truth to her parents, her waters breaks and little Heather comes to light. Everyone is overjoyed at the happy event. Heather thus gives April the strength to confess the truth, and in the end Wayne, cursing Paul, assures her daughter that she will have all the support she needs. She then admits that she is serious about giving the child up for adoption, but Dorothy, overwhelmed by conflicting feelings about the joy of Heather's birth and April's revelations, lets go and impulsively confesses that she gave April's twin sister up for adoption in the past and bitterly regrets it. Dorothy thus asks April not to make a gesture she may later regret. Upset by the news, April, thanks in part to Greg's support, who promises her that he will be by her side, decides to keep Heather, whom she already loves infinitely. Meanwhile, Greg informs a worried Casey how are things going on between her and Nikki, now increasingly distant. Greg in fact seems more and more convinced to want to ask for a divorce from the woman, which increases Casey's worries about her sister.

1980 (#6) - The refusal to have an abortion and the breakup between April and Paul

Meanwhile April, radiant and unaware, informs her neighbour and friend Chris, that she's expecting a baby exactly as her. Chris hugs and congratulates her friend; April is aware that it won't be easy, also and above all because of the financial situation the couple is going through, but they will make it, since April is convinced that Paul will soon quit his job as a waiter and will look for a better paid job to marry her. While April is speaking, however, Chris does not hide a certain concern about how Paul will react to the news of the pregnancy, knowing what kind of guy he is. And April's expectations are shattered when Paul is undecided about what to do first and finally convinced of the need to have an abortion. Hearing Paul's words, April is incredulous and unable to understand Paul's fear. Paul admits that he is neither ready nor willing to take on a role as a husband in a marriage that April suggested, not to mention a father. April cannot believe the words of her boyfriend, who at this point decides to run away and break up with his girlfriend, who insists that her baby may be born. With a broken heart and a difficult pregnancy to cope with, April is consoled by Chris and her family, who arrive from New York as soon as they hear about the pregnancy and say they are ready to welcome their baby girl back into the house. April, however, claims her independence, which she has achieved through hard work and many sacrifices. She also tries to avoid the constant questions of her mother Dorothy and her father Wayne Stevens, who put a lot of pressure on the girl to get to know her boyfriend. April initially hides Paul's identity, then makes no mention that he has left her, resulting in pressure from Wayne and Dorothy for the man to come and ask for the girl's hand in marriage. It's obvious that in this situation Chris is worried about the stress suffered by the girl and the effects of this on her pregnancy, despite April, a relentless optimist, is convinced that things will work out one way or another.
