1987 (#5) - Farren's abortion, the meeting with Betsy and Evan's promises to Janet

Determined to put Farren's previous life behind them, Andy and the same woman decide to focus on marriage, as they both intend to start a family and have a baby. After numerous attempts, a very happy Farren tells Andy that she is pregnant. The joy in the family, however, lasts only a few weeks, since Farren, hospitalized due to a sudden loss of consciousness, is informed by doctors that she has lost the baby. Lauren says she is sorry for the miscarriage, and in the meantime she informs Evan of the episode; despite much resistance, he is finally convinced by Lauren to return to Genoa City, this time with her baby girl, Betsy. Comforting by the words of Dr. Mark Sloan, who confirms to Lauren and Evan that currently nothing prevents Farren from regaining her memory and that this could happen at any time, the man is convinced to appear before Farren again, if only to introduce her to his daughter, who could certainly help her both to remember her past and to comfort her for the abortion. Once again, however, Farren admits that she does not recognize a familiar face in either Evan or Betsy. Although this time the meeting was more colloquial and serene, Evan once again convinces himself that he will probably never get his ex-wife back and decides to put an end to it. After all, Evan has been having an affair with his housekeeper, Janet Moss, for some time now, and he intends to strengthen that relationship by putting Michelle behind him definitively. Janet is excited to hear from her partner that he will soon send Farren the divorce papers, as he is officially still linked to the woman. Evan, thus, promises to an ecstatic Janet who will soon become his wife.

1986 (#30) - Gary's announcements, the meeting in Pittsburgh of Evan and Lauren

Back to Dr. Sloan's visit, Andy and Farren receive the news from the doctor that the tests were positive, meaning that the woman has no permanent brain damage and that, therefore, there is nothing to prevent Farren from remembering her past, if stimulated. This news gives new vigour to Lauren's research, who talking with her friend Gary Thompson, current director of the Genoa City Chronicle, decides to put an ad for missing women with Farren's face. Soon, to Lauren's great joy, a letter arrives from a certain Wayne Navalle, who says he recognizes Farren as his companion; the encounter with the woman, however, is negative, and Wayne himself admits that Farren is not the woman he is looking for. Lauren seems to be resigned when Gary tells her of the arrival of a second letter from Evan Sanderson, convinced that the woman in the photo is his wife. Lauren decides to keep the news hidden and to go directly to Pittsburgh, where the man lives. Here, Lauren makes the acquaintance of her maid Janet Moss and especially of the man who claims to be Farren's husband, Evan Sanderson. Lauren convinces Evan to return with her to Genoa City, where she also explains to Paul and Andy that Farren's real name is actually Michelle and that he and Michelle were married in Pittsburgh, before Michelle lost track of her. Evan explains how he and Michelle loved each other and that they also had a daughter, a little girl named Betsy. Finally, the man explains to Paul that he searched for the woman from the day she disappeared even after she was declared dead. So far, everything had been in vain, but luckily his prayers were finally heard. Lauren thus returns to Genoa City convinced that she has found the key to separating Andy and Farren.

1986 (#22) - Farren's amnesia and the reconciliation attempt between Andy and Diane

It's not long before Lauren's suspicions and Farren's intuitions prove accurate. Noting in fact Farren quite strange, Andy asks him what's wrong. Despite initial reassurances from Farren, Andy senses that there's something Farren has to tell him and in the end the woman decides to open up completely to him. Farren thus confesses to Andy that she doesn't remember anything from his previous life before a year ago. In fact, the woman can't remember what her real name is, where she comes from or whatever happened to her before she woke up more than a year ago from a hospital bed after a car accident. Andy is completely stunned and shocked by Farren's words, but he promises the woman that he and Paul will investigate her past. Farren explains to Andy how the doctors kept her in a coma for a while before waking her up and realising that her brain has suffered severe memory loss. Andy, convinced by Lauren, decides to take Farren to a doctor specialized in psychology and brain damage, Dr. Mark Sloan, who advises Farren to look only at the future and the present, without worrying too much about her past. Farren, thus, assures Andy that in the end she doesn't care about her past by being happy with him, which is all she wants. Andy embraces his woman and promises that he will take care of her and make her feel safe. Andy then tells Paul the whole thing, while Lauren realizes that Tamra was actually right. Convinced that Farren's past could really hurt Andy, Lauren is even more convinced to follow Tamra's advice and promises to herself that she will succeed in separating Andy and Farren, even though Paul doesn't agree with his girlfriend at all, believing that Farren has the right to be happy too. Lauren thus decides to bring back to Genoa City Andy's greatest love, the beautiful Diane Jenkins, who is willing to try to win Andy back, since she bitterly regrets having asked for a divorce from Andy to pursue the illusion of being with Jack. When Paul explains to Farren that Diane is Andy's ex-wife, she doesn't hide her jealousy, also because Andy is immediately very sympathetic to Diane, which annoys Farren. When Diane informs Andy that she hopes that there may be a second chance between the two of them, without obviously revealing that she was convinced to take this step by Lauren, Andy initially seems undecided what to do, but soon rejects the woman's attempts at courtship, confirming his love for Farren. However, Andy greets Diane with a kiss goodbye accidentally noticed by Farren, who is furious even though she eventually forgives the man. Lauren, thus, is forced to accept the failure of Diane's attempt, while not giving up insisting on finding out the truth about Farren's identity.
