In Pittsburgh, the procedural steps to formalize the annulment of the marriage between Evan and Farren were delayed and the situation, meanwhile, became increasingly tense. All this until Evan, now realizing he still loves his Michelle, informs Janet that he cannot marry her since she is not the woman he loves. Janet thus sees the world collapse on her and all her dreams are shattered; and she sees Farren as solely responsible for all this. When Evan begs Janet to do her things and leave, Janet does not hesitate for a moment to leave Evan's house, on her way to the hotel where Farren is staying. Evan soon realizes that Janet has also taken his gun with her, and immediately runs after her, reaching her in Farren's hotel room, finding her threatened by Janet screaming in her face that she has ruined her life. The situation explodes when Andy decides to intervene; Janet decides to shoot, but in an extreme act of love the bullet is taken by Evan, who interposes himself between Janet and Farren in order to protect her. Evan, on the ground, is immediately taken to the hospital by Andy under the eyes of a shocked Farren, who takes care to call the police and have Janet arrested. When Evan is taken to the hospital, it is already very serious, but he finds the strength to be able to tell Farren his last wishes. The two of them agree on the need to tell Betsy the truth, which is that it is Farren who is her mother. Andy, understanding the intimacy of this moment, steps aside and waits for the two parents to live alone with little Betsy this touching moment of intimacy. A few hours later, Evan dies leaving Farren and his daughter in tears. Andy and Farren are so alone with little Betsy that they decide to adopt and raise her together. Before dying, moreover, Evan, in a last gesture of generosity, signs the papers declaring the end of his marriage with Michelle, aka Farren, starting from the date of her disappearance; a stratagem, this to make the union between Andy and Farren completely valid and, at the same time, not to invalidate the previous marriage of the couple, an event that would not allow Betsy to inherit Evan's possessions. Back in Genoa City, Andy and Farren then inform Paul and Lauren that they want to move permanently to Pittsburgh to give way to Betsy not to have to suffer too much for the already many changes that there have been. After a few days, Andy and Farren start their new life in Pittsburgh together with Betsy.

1987 (#10) - Evan's divorce papers, Farren's memories and Janet's jealousy
When a voluminous envelope of paper arrives in Andy and Farren's mailbox that is nothing more than a copy of the divorce papers between Evan and Michelle, Farren is shocked. Andy explains to the woman that she and Evan were married and now the man intends to close this chapter of her life forever. Andy and Farren, worried that their marriage may be declared illegitimate, understand that they must ensure that their previous marriage to Evan is declared null and void. And supported also by Lauren, who still hopes that feelings can born again between Evan and Farren, Andy and Farren decide to leave for Pittsburgh to unravel this difficult judicial matter. What Andy doesn't know, however, is that Farren is anxious to return to the city of her previous life as she is beginning to have memories of Evan and Betsy. Arrived at the man's house, to welcome Farren there is a not certainly enthusiastic Janet, who is immediately jealous and annoyed by the presence of the woman. When Farren explains the whole matter to Evan, he understands the situation and agrees to make their previous marriage null and void, but he is surprised when Farren asks him about his right to visit and to be with Betsy as the child's mother. Evan, shocked, understands that Farren begins to remember something about her life; and suddenly, all his hopes and dreams set aside come back. Evan proposes to Farren and Andy to move in with them temporarily but, especially because of Janet's unhappy reaction and Andy's obvious difficulty, in the end everyone agrees that it is better to get a hotel room. Farren, meanwhile, reassures Andy about her love, while at the same time Evan begins to have doubts about his decision to marry Janet, who realizes the man's feelings and appears very worried.

1987 (#5) - Farren's abortion, the meeting with Betsy and Evan's promises to Janet
Determined to put Farren's previous life behind them, Andy and the same woman decide to focus on marriage, as they both intend to start a family and have a baby. After numerous attempts, a very happy Farren tells Andy that she is pregnant. The joy in the family, however, lasts only a few weeks, since Farren, hospitalized due to a sudden loss of consciousness, is informed by doctors that she has lost the baby. Lauren says she is sorry for the miscarriage, and in the meantime she informs Evan of the episode; despite much resistance, he is finally convinced by Lauren to return to Genoa City, this time with her baby girl, Betsy. Comforting by the words of Dr. Mark Sloan, who confirms to Lauren and Evan that currently nothing prevents Farren from regaining her memory and that this could happen at any time, the man is convinced to appear before Farren again, if only to introduce her to his daughter, who could certainly help her both to remember her past and to comfort her for the abortion. Once again, however, Farren admits that she does not recognize a familiar face in either Evan or Betsy. Although this time the meeting was more colloquial and serene, Evan once again convinces himself that he will probably never get his ex-wife back and decides to put an end to it. After all, Evan has been having an affair with his housekeeper, Janet Moss, for some time now, and he intends to strengthen that relationship by putting Michelle behind him definitively. Janet is excited to hear from her partner that he will soon send Farren the divorce papers, as he is officially still linked to the woman. Evan, thus, promises to an ecstatic Janet who will soon become his wife.

1987 (#2) - Lauren's plan and the disappointing encounter between Farren and Evan
Back in Genoa City, Lauren is determined more than ever to ensure that Farren's true identity is revealed. So Lauren and Paul contact Andy and explain the situation to him. Andy is initially furious with Lauren for her constant intrusions, but soon he is convinced by Paul that the only thing to do is to face the situation together with Farren, without running away or forgetting it by pretending it doesn't exist. Andy then accepts Lauren's plan to have Evan and Farren meet casually in town. The first step was simple for Lauren, that is to convince Evan to show up in Genoa City; much more difficult, however, the meeting with Farren, fixed at the Rendezvous, is expected. Here, Farren is surprised when Evan sits down at her table and starts talking to her excitedly. Farren, who does not recognize the man, thinks he is hitting on her and asks Andy to send him away; but she is shocked when Andy himself asks Farren to listen to Evan. They tell her about their previous life, their marriage, the house in Pittsburgh, the birth of their daughter Betsy. Farren is incredulous to hear those words and her first spontaneous reaction is to run away; soon, however, Andy tries to make her calm and reason, despite Farren confirms that she doesn't even know who that man is and that she has never seen him before. Farren then says again that she doesn't want to go back and dig into her past and that she only wants to think about her present and her future. Lauren is disappointed when Andy tells him about the negative outcome of the meeting and the decision taken together with Farren to put this whole thing behind him in order to move forward; and even more so when Evan, who now seems resigned to having lost his Michelle forever, informs Lauren to return to Pittsburgh.

1986 (#30) - Gary's announcements, the meeting in Pittsburgh of Evan and Lauren
Back to Dr. Sloan's visit, Andy and Farren receive the news from the doctor that the tests were positive, meaning that the woman has no permanent brain damage and that, therefore, there is nothing to prevent Farren from remembering her past, if stimulated. This news gives new vigour to Lauren's research, who talking with her friend Gary Thompson, current director of the Genoa City Chronicle, decides to put an ad for missing women with Farren's face. Soon, to Lauren's great joy, a letter arrives from a certain Wayne Navalle, who says he recognizes Farren as his companion; the encounter with the woman, however, is negative, and Wayne himself admits that Farren is not the woman he is looking for. Lauren seems to be resigned when Gary tells her of the arrival of a second letter from Evan Sanderson, convinced that the woman in the photo is his wife. Lauren decides to keep the news hidden and to go directly to Pittsburgh, where the man lives. Here, Lauren makes the acquaintance of her maid Janet Moss and especially of the man who claims to be Farren's husband, Evan Sanderson. Lauren convinces Evan to return with her to Genoa City, where she also explains to Paul and Andy that Farren's real name is actually Michelle and that he and Michelle were married in Pittsburgh, before Michelle lost track of her. Evan explains how he and Michelle loved each other and that they also had a daughter, a little girl named Betsy. Finally, the man explains to Paul that he searched for the woman from the day she disappeared even after she was declared dead. So far, everything had been in vain, but luckily his prayers were finally heard. Lauren thus returns to Genoa City convinced that she has found the key to separating Andy and Farren.
