1991 (#10) - Cassandra's death, Paul and Lynne's union, and Ra-Tech's legacy

Despite Cassandra's good intentions, her marriage to Brad does not go as she would have hoped; and this, essentially because Brad seems to have repented, not hiding that he has serious doubts that this marriage has not caused more problems than it has solved. When Brad confesses to Cassandra that he thinks he has made a mistake, a mistake he wants to remedy, she accepts her husband's wishes and agrees to a divorce between the two, also because in the meantime love seems to have been reborn between Paul and Cassandra. After signing the divorce papers, Cassandra rushes to Paul to inform him of the news, but is inadvertently hit by a truck on the road. Cassandra dies on the spot, leaving everyone saddened and shocked. A desperate Paul, meanwhile, is shocked to learn, by Cassandra's own will, that he is the only heir to the woman's fortune. Paul, therefore, suddenly finds himself the owner of an immensely valuable fortune, that of Ra-Tech. Immediately, Jack and Jill come to Paul's house interested in buying Ra-Tech, but Paul, very wary of them, refuses any offer. However, the man had much more immediate plans, such as the dream of a new house for Mary and a new wardrobe for Lynne. Finding himself alone again, in fact, Paul realizes that the long search for that never found love could end much closer than he had ever suspected, noticing only now how Lynne's loyalty and smiles hide nothing but a great love and devotion towards him. Paul and a radiant Lynne begin to date, making her life the dream that she had been hoping for years to come true. However, mocking fate seems to have come against Paul. When Paul learns of the death of Judge Warren Goldstein, the one who was supposed to formalize Brad and Cassandra's divorce, he realizes that the two of them never actually got divorced. As a result, all of the woman's inheritance now belongs to Brad, the only person entitled to inherit the woman's fortune, including Ra-Tech. At the news, Paul, Mary and Lynne take it philosophically, looking at the future as always with realistic and at the same time positive and optimistic eyes.

1991 (#6) - Brad and Cassandra's Aspen trip and Las Vegas wedding

Despite Cassandra's intentions to elevate her professional relationship with Brad to a purely sentimental one, he doesn't seem to want to follow up on her advances, wanting to concentrate exclusively on recovering his relationship with Traci, with whom he is slowly reconciling and rediscovering the feeling of the past. And so, when Brad makes it clear to Cassandra that there will never be anything between them, the woman prepares a plan to have the man all to herself. Cassandra, in fact, convinces Brad to go skiing for a weekend together in Aspen as simple friends, but along the way the woman drugs the man with substances in the coffee and instead of Aspen she flies to Las Vegas. Here, the two get married without Brad being conscious and capable of understanding. Only the next morning, when he wakes up in Cassandra's bed without remembering anything about the wedding, Brad realizes that he has done something stupid. Awaiting him awake with a big smile on his face is Cassandra, who informs him of the wedding and of their night of passion spent together. Brad, on hearing these words, is literally shocked, wondering how he could have done this to Traci, accusing Cassandra of manipulating him. Brad then calls Traci, lying and informing her that he couldn't return to Genoa City before a few days due to a snowstorm; meanwhile, Brad tries hard to find a solution that he can't see. And the sensual presence of Cassandra, who never stops provoking and tempting him, finally convinces him that it's not so bad to be married to a woman as beautiful as her after all. In Genoa City, meanwhile, Traci worries about what Brad and Cassandra are doing in Aspen, not hiding her fears about Cassandra's real intentions and her desire to reach them to see for herself. Similarly, it is Paul who is jealous of Brad, showing that he still has strong feelings towards the woman, despite all the misadventures he has been through with her. This is something that Lynne, Paul's secretary, who has been hoping to have a chance with the man for years, is unable to understand. Back in Genoa City, Brad and Cassandra tell everyone that they got married in Las Vegas, causing quite a stir. Traci is incredulous at Brad's words and is furious with him, unable to believe that he had the courage to do such a thing; Jack himself, who has recently taken over at Jabot, is disappointed, as are John and Ashley at the man's behavior, and hope that he will never have to deal with Traci or the company again. Victor, on the other hand, is rather impassive and does not take an official position, since he is still one of his most important collaborators. The marriage of Cassandra and Brad, however, leaves its mark also on another side, that of Paul, who doesn't hide that he still has feelings for the woman, despite everything. Both Lauren and Lynne, however, are happy about Cassandra's marriage, which they hope will lead Paul to leave behind his interest in the woman. The situation, then, degenerates when Paul and Brad even end up at each other's hands because of the policeman's accusations of wanting to take advantage of the woman.

1991 (#2) - Brad and Victor's tensions and understanding with Cassandra

The beginning of the year brings big changes at the corporate level. It all revolves around the dualism between Brad, currently the head of both Jabot, a subsidiary of Newmans Enterprise, and Cassandra's Ra-Tech, and Jack, who is now reclaiming a place at the helm of the family business. However, there are many factors that lead to a change in the current situation, mostly decided by Victor, majority owner of Newman Enterprises. First of all, there is the relationship with Brad that, following Cassandra's decision to appoint him from temporary CEO to permanent CEO of Ra-Tech, effectively ousting Victor himself, is particularly strained. Another determining factor is the marriage between Ashley and Victor; the man, in fact, is well aware of the attraction that existed in the past between Brad and Ashley and wants to avoid contact as much as possible; all this without considering that Ashley would like very much to find Jack at the helm of Jabot; a hope shared by John himself and, in the end, by Victor himself after Brad has ruined the company's image through his collaboration with Leanna's TV show. In short, the time is ripe for Victor to test Brad, ordering him to adopt a better attitude at work if he doesn't want him replaced. The request is interpreted by Brad as a declaration of war; and without thinking twice he quits Jabot, but not Newman Enterprises, secure in his position at Ra-Tech. Accepting pressure from John and Ashley, Victor appoints Jack as the new CEO of the family business, which brings him over the moon. To console an angry Brad, however, is Cassandra, who, unlike Victor, renews her confidence in the man, not failing to show him that her interest goes beyond the professional relationship. Brad and Cassandra begin to flirt more and more, despite the fact that the situation is often put in check by Brad himself, who is engaged in the umpteenth attempt to make peace with Traci, who is increasingly jealous of Cassandra and quite fed up with Brad's usual disrespectful behavior.

1990 (#14) - Cassandra's false expectations and Victor's replacement at Ra-Tech

Having put behind him the sad and convulsive events of George's death and Adrian's follies, Paul, despite all the pain Cassandra had caused him, realizes he is still in love with her and can do nothing but think of her and of a possible reunion. Cassandra, on the other hand, seems to want to file this parenthesis and move on with her life. Having inherited her company, Ra-Tech, from George, Cassandra decides to enter the business world and exploit her friendship with Victor to make a profit. And so, when Cassandra asks him to become CEO of the company, something that wouldn't take too much of his time since he is already involved in the much larger business of Newman Enterprise and Jabot Cosmetics, Victor accepts, happy to find in his work some distractions from the obsessive thought of Nikki and Jack together. Working side by side with the man, Cassandra discovers that she has more in common with Victor than she imagined and a sincere and deep friendship is born between them. It is not long before she begins to hypothesize a possible sentimental future with the man, to whom she feels increasingly attracted. Cassandra's hopes, however, are interrupted when Victor tells her that he wants to leave for Switzerland with his daughter. Cassandra, surprised, does not deny that she has feelings for him, but when Victor makes it clear that he is not ready for a relationship, she reassures him that she will get over it and move on. Before Victor leaves, he appoints Brad as his replacement and temporary CEO at both Newman Enterprise and Ra-Tech. Soon, however, Cassandra, in a somewhat vindictive manner that suggests bitterness at Victor's rejection, turns Brad's position from temporary to permanent without consulting Victor himself, effectively firing him from the company.

1990 (#3) - The plot against Cassandra, Paul's intervention and Adrian's arrest

Terrified by visions of Paul whom she believes to be dead, and wracked with guilt, Cassandra returns to Genoa City, despite Adrian's opposition and the irrepressible passion they are demonstrating on this trip. However, unlike what Carl and Victor had predicted, Cassandra makes no confession; and through tears, after discovering that Paul is actually alive, she reveals that she did not kill George. Cassandra, moved, assures that she is not a murderer and begs Paul to believe her. Although Carl and Victor are skeptical about it, Paul decides to believe the woman, assuming that it was Adrian himself who did it, although Cassandra is also certain of Adrian's innocence. Adrian, meanwhile, realizing that Cassandra has abandoned him, decides to leave Bermuda and return to the United States, this time to complete the work and kill Cassandra. Upon Adrian's arrival, Cassandra, unaware that Paul is following her to monitor Adrian's movements, asks the man's forgiveness for leaving him alone. This, of course, is no longer enough for the man, who is also convinced that the woman is now collaborating with the police; he decides to devise a plan to kill his wife and come out clean in order to inherit all the Rawlins' possessions. Showing concern and affection, Adrian promises to protect Cassandra and stay close to her even if she is convicted. Adrian's manipulations convince Cassandra to entrust him with her possessions in case she is arrested; having obtained her signature, Adrian can start his diabolical plan to kill her and make it look like a suicide. Drugged and tied to a chair, Cassandra is left unconscious with a gun in front of her that is connected to a mechanism programmed to trigger the gun when the ice that prevents the weapon from being activated has melted. When a terrified Cassandra wakes up and realizes the situation, Adrian has already fled in search of a solid alibi; however, fortunately for her, Paul had followed her and promptly intervenes along with Victor, who replaces Cassandra with a dummy staging the woman's death to make Adrian believe that his plan worked. All of this, of course, in order to make sure that a satisfied Adrian does not flee and brag about the success of his plan to an alleged thug, who is none other than Carl. Having thus recorded the man's confession, Paul immediately goes into action and arrests the man, stunned to see Cassandra alive in front of him, for George's murder. Not much time passes, finally, that a shaken Cassandra asks and obtains a divorce from Adrian.

1989 (#31) - The escape to Bermuda with Adrian and the ghosts of Cassandra

Immediately after her marriage to Cassandra, Adrian still does not feel safe in the city and, with the excuse of her honeymoon, immediately leaves the country to escape to Bermuda, from where she does not intend to return. Paul, seeing Carl and Mary desperate to believe him dead, decides to reveal the truth to them, very happy to be able to embrace their son again. Paul also explains to them Victor's role in helping him and the whole thing, including the news about Adrian's identity, including his marriage to Cassandra and his escape to Bermuda. Carl and Paul, then, convinced that the only way to get the truth out is a full confession from Cassandra herself, decide to follow the couple to Bermuda to convince them to turn themselves in. Here Paul, strengthened by the fact that Cassandra thinks he is dead, takes advantage of the situation to show himself to the woman under the guise of a ghost. Cassandra, in seeing what she believes Paul's spirit is raging against her, begins to think she is haunted, ending up being terrified and frightened by her visions to the point of seriously considering the idea of revealing the man's innocence, although Adrian of course does not agree and minimizes the whole thing by urging Cassandra to relax and enjoy their lives.

1989 (#26) - Paul's fake suicide and the civil marriage between Adrian and Cassandra

In a desperate attempt to exonerate himself, Paul devises a plan with Victor, suggesting that he fake his own death. The two then drop Paul's car off a cliff and set it on fire. When rescue arrived, the car was completely burned to ashes, and the authorities, unable to find the body, dismissed the case as suicide and found the man unaccounted for. The court, considering Paul's suicide as an admission of guilt, closed the case despite the protests of a desperate Carl. The latter in the meantime, kept in the dark by Paul and Victor's plan to prevent it from being discovered, tries in vain to convince the officials to reopen the case, citing as possible evidence of Cassandra's bad faith a series of photos where the woman is wearing earrings that she had previously reported missing for theft the night of the murder. Paul, finally free to investigate and collect evidence against Cassandra and Adrian undercover, searches with Victor for evidence that could connect Adrian with George's death; however, any attempt to connect the man with the crime scene seems useless. Adrian himself, meanwhile, convinces Cassandra to marry him; it turns out that the two have always agreed to take advantage of George's plan to blame Paul and eliminate any possible trace of the murder for hire entrusted to Adrian, thus free to go out and live with his mistress, Cassandra. At the end of a hasty ceremony held in civil form at the City of Genoa City in front of Mayor Donald James, Adrian and Cassandra celebrate their union, now convinced that they have got away with it to the detriment of an innocent Paul who, realizing that from the beginning he was nothing more than a pawn in the hands of the couple, promises to himself that he will get justice.

1989 (#18) - The clandestine flirt between Adrian and Cassandra, the arrest of Paul

Released on bail with Victor's help, Paul tries to understand and reason with his father Carl about what happened. Carl, to whom Paul guarantees his total innocence and extraneousness to the facts, firmly believes his son's version and, together, they realize that the man was framed. But what neither Carl nor Paul support, however, is that in all this time that Paul has been dating Cassandra, he has not been the only lover of the woman. Cassandra, in fact, also frequents a certain Adrian Hunter, a shady individual of Ukrainian origin that Victor, by chance, meets in the company of the woman, thus exposing their relationship. Convinced that somehow the two have plotted against Paul, Victor offers to help Paul and Carl, who in the meantime is forced to work unofficially on the case, having been taken away because of his personal involvement. Cassandra in the meantime informs a now suspicious Paul that it is better, for them, not to meet again to arouse suspicion; the meeting, in fact, was arranged by the woman to connect the man with the place where the murder weapon was found, left at the very spot where Paul waited for Cassandra. And so, when an anonymous call informs the police where to find the murder weapon, the fingerprints on it cause Paul to be entered in the register of suspects. Paul, thus, is arrested again, this time on charges of voluntary manslaughter. Paul proclaims his innocence once again, now realizing that he was framed by Cassandra herself who, during a visit to the prison, confides to the man his belief that the man would soon be found innocent. Convinced that he had to do something, Victor decides to seduce Cassandra to try to collect some evidence, but is unable to get any information from her, even though he realizes that the woman is still dating Adrian. The latter, meanwhile, incites Cassandra herself to leave the city with him, but the woman refuses, warning him that she wants to wait until the end of the trial and the conviction against Paul, so as not to arouse suspicion. Soon, Carl manages to track down Adrian and, looking at his phone records, to prove his connection with George, realizing that Adrian himself is probably the author of the murder, although there is no evidence to suggest Paul's innocence. Paul's position, meanwhile, becomes more complicated when during the trial, under oath before Judge Richard Hodges and the prosecution represented by Patrick Sullivan, Cassandra admits that there was a relationship between her and Paul: and it is at this moment that Carl, overcome with despair, begins to realize that nothing, at the moment, seems to be able to save Paul from a wrongful conviction.

1989 (#15) - Cassandra's betrayals and George's deadly revenge

As the months go by, George's condition gradually seems to improve, even though he is aware that he does not have long to live. His wife Cassandra is obviously by his side and caring for him, convinced that the man doesn't remember anything about his confession; however, she doesn't imagine that her husband is slowly bringing back her memories and that, therefore, he doesn't trust her at all. And being convinced that Cassandra is cheating on him, George rents a room right in front of Paul's apartment, spying from morning to night with binoculars. George's observations always seem to be disappointing, until the man's suspicions materialize: his wife Cassandra and his friend Paul, whom he has always considered as a son, are lovers. The image of the two in each other's arms throws George into a blinding rage that leads him to harbor a desire for revenge. George, thus, begins to put in place an accurate plan that must absolutely be infallible. After painstakingly filing the safety pin on his gun, George asks Paul to have it repaired; later, George himself writes a letter in which he accuses Paul of fraud, creating a series of fake invoices on which Paul allegedly made money in his surveillance work at Ra-Tech. George then skillfully staged an argument in front of an astonished Paul, so that Victor could hear them. When Paul finally returns the repaired gun to George, who thus obtains the man's fingerprints on his gun, the plan can finally be put into action. By hiring a serial killer to kill with George's gun without leaving prints, the man gets himself killed so that Paul can be blamed. It upsets Brittany to find her uncle's body in a pool of blood first. And the upset of everyone, Paul first along with two destroyed Patricia and Ernest, soon turns to disbelief when Paul is accused and arrested for fraud and put on the list of prime suspects in the investigation of George's murder. It is at this moment that Paul, should the police discover that he and Cassandra are having an affair, realizes alarmed that he could be accused of murder.

1988 (#25) - The shock of Cassandra's confession and George's heart attack

More and more passionately and sentimentally involved with Paul, Cassandra begins to be sincerely in love with the man and, realizing she has to find a way out of this increasingly unsustainable situation, she becomes convinced of Paul's thesis of having to confess everything to George before he finds out on his own. On a cold autumn evening, Cassandra finally finds the courage to confess to George that she loves another man and, taking care not to reveal his identity, asks him for a divorce. The man, shocked by the woman's revelations that actually confirm what has always been his suspicions, without even being able to utter a word but a few whispers, falls to the ground suffering from a heart attack. Shocked by what happened, Cassandra immediately calls for help and, thanks also to Brittany's prompt intervention, George is transported to the hospital. Here, all of George's family and friends, including Paul himself, who wonders more and more insistently whether Cassandra may have had an impact on the man's heart attack. When cornered, the woman finally confesses to having actually told George the whole truth, but when she wakes up she shows, or pretends, that she no longer remembers anything. When the doctors warn Cassandra that her husband is particularly weak, the woman postpones the confession to a more suitable moment, deciding to wait for him to get well again. Paul is impressed by Cassandra's choice to put her husband's health first, a gesture that makes him realize that he cares very much about the woman. Despite the passage of weeks, however, George's condition does not seem to improve, and the doctors warn Cassandra and Paul that the man has only a few months to live, having found in him the symptoms of a terminal illness. The news causes a deep shock to the two of them, who decide not to say anything to George and to wait for his death to make their union official; despite, however, between the two continue the moments of strong intimacy.

1988 (#18) - George's impotence, the request to Paul and Brittany's suspicions

Some time after the famous dinner where Paul discovered Cassandra's identity, Paul himself does not expect George to ring his doorbell. Initially convinced that George has found out all about his relationship with Cassandra, before Paul can make a big mistake is George talking, saying he needs the help of the man who realizes that George has chosen him as a friend to vent his marital problems. A worried George confides to Paul that he suffers from impotence and is afraid that because of his problems Cassandra might betray him; in fact, George reveals to suspect that Cassandra sees a man younger than him, not noticing Paul's rather embarrassed expression. Sure at this point that George wants to entrust him with the task of verifying Cassandra's betrayals, George once again amazes Paul by asking him to have a child with his wife. The request puzzles Paul, but George justifies this proposal by saying that a pregnancy would certainly alienate any possible lover and bring him closer to his youngest wife. Paul, convinced that Cassandra wants everything less than a pregnancy, categorically rejects the man's proposal, not hiding a veil of concern about his situation. Brittany, meanwhile, begins to study Cassandra's behavior by going to feed the doubts of her uncle George, who however rejects the niece's thesis that Cassandra would have married him only for his money. The burden of bearing and holding his story with Cassandra, for Paul, becomes even harder when unexpectedly Mary and Carl tell Paul to accept and be happy for his relationship with Cassandra, considered to be a more suitable woman for him than Lauren. All this, of course, until Mary discovers that Cassandra is a married woman, a situation that is unacceptable to Mary and that increasingly convinces Paul to end his relationship with Cassandra, who, however, does not want to hear reasons and manages, with the weapon of seduction, to control every action of Paul.

1988 (#14) - George's party and the discovery of Cassandra's true identity

When Paul was invited by his friend George Rawlins to a family party, he did not expect to receive the biggest shock of his life. George, a wealthy entrepreneur who owns Ra-Tech, a company for which Paul has served as a security guard, is in fact an old friend of Paul's, who is happy to accept the invitation offered to him. However, Paul is shocked when George introduces him to Cassandra, his wife. The evening goes on apparently quietly but with Paul who sees all his certainties broken inside him, unable to imagine that the woman and lover he has been seeing for months is the attractive wife of one of his dearest friends. The situation becomes even more embarrassing when George asks Paul about his love life and introduces her to his beautiful niece Brittany Norman, daughter of his sister Patricia Rawlins and her husband Ernest Norman, who seems interested in Paul. He finds it absurd how Cassandra is comfortable joking about a possible flirtation between Paul and Brittany and, at the same time, trying to get close to Paul to satisfy his desires. Convinced that Cassandra doesn't have all her marbles , Paul leaves determined to end all relations with the woman, also out of respect for his friend George. Cassandra, however, in the following weeks manages to drive Paul completely crazy, who realizes that he can not resist the temptations of Cassandra, able to literally make the man lose his head.

1988 (#7) - Lynne's crush and Paul's infatuation with decorator Cassandra

Following her not-so-happy idea to publish nude photos of Paul, as it is easy to imagine, Amy is fired by Lauren and soon decides to leave town. However, when Amy returns for a short stay in the city, she does not fail to stop by and say goodbye to her old friend Paul. He is surprised to see the girl again, who after listening to his unfortunate experience with Lauren herself predicts that the man will soon find a new love, wondering if his new secretary, Lynne Bassett, might be the right woman for him. After all, Lynne soon becomes a fundamental friend and confidant of Paul's, but he does not realize that the girl inside him has feelings for him without having the courage to express them. Paul, on the other hand, has been very burned by the end of his relationship with Lauren and feels he still has to wait for the right moment to fall in love with a woman again. Paul, moreover, has no intention of going back to the past, rejecting the approach of an always sensual Lauren who, after receiving Brad's kiss off, does not fail to tempt him, vainly, several times. However, Paul's life changes radically when he meets the charming and attractive Cassandra Hall at an art exhibition, an interior decorator who cannot get out of his mind. Paul, therefore, does everything to see the woman, even taking an interest in an interior design course held by Cassandra herself, to whom he asks to remake his office. After a few months spent together, an uncontrollable passion arises between the two when Paul, with the excuse of asking the woman for help to renovate his apartment, they end up making love. Lauren does her best to attract Paul's attention, but he now has only eyes for Cassandra, with whom he admits he has fallen in love. So it's not long before Paul decides to propose to Cassandra to become his wife, which obviously leaves both Carl and especially Mary, worried that her son is moving too fast.
