1992 (#16) - The medical checks with Rex and the discovery of Katherine's nodule
Still overjoyed by her wonderful marriage, Katherine begins her new married life with Rex with the belief that nothing and no one will ever be able to separate them again. Wanting to guarantee and secure a long and happy life together, Katherine convinces Rex to undergo a series of medical checkups to get a complete health check-up. Never, ever, however, did Katherine expect to receive bad news and, as a result, she is shocked when she learns from Dr. Amy Fowler and nurse Janet Davis that she has a lump in her breast. Fortunately for her, the tumor was detected early; however, action must be taken immediately to avoid greater risks. Katherine, shocked to learn that she has cancer, decides not to reveal anything to Rex. But when Jill accidentally discovers the truth, noticing some chemotherapy pills that Katherine must be taking, she tries to convince Katherine in every way not to keep such an important thing hidden from her husband. Katherine, more and more demoralized and convinced that she is close to death, decides to insist on her way, desperately asking Jill not to make her husband suffer unnecessarily. But Katherine's requests are useless, since Jill soon informs Rex of the situation. Rex, overcome with emotion, confides in his wife through tears, promising her that together they will fight and defeat this evil. When Dr. Alan Kester confronts Katherine with the choice between continuing the pharmacological therapy or the surgical one with the total removal of the nodule, without consequences for the physical aspect, it is Rex who encourages and exhorts his wife to undergo the operation that, fortunately, is a success. Katherine, on whose vault joy finally returns, thanks Jill for the support she has shown her, admitting to consider her, for the first time, a true friend.
