Soon, everyone realizes that the woman has broken the waters, although Nina continues to claim desperately that it is still too early, being only eight months pregnant. Nina's fear of losing the baby becomes very real when nurse Deborah Ecckles informs the woman that the doctors suspect that there is internal bleeding due to the rupture of the placenta and that they will have to perform an emergency caesarean section. Fortunately, the operation goes well; the baby is born healthy, while Nina's initially critical condition soon improves. As soon as Nina wakes up, Phillip Jr enters her room with the baby in his hand; a splendid family picture is formed between them, and the couple decides to name the baby Phillip IV Chancellor, commonly called Chance. Jill, still hoping to prove that the child is not Phillip Jr.'s son, proposes to carry out a paternity test, but the result is positive: Phillip Jr is actually Chance's father. Nina confesses to Phillip Jr. that Chance has given her the will to live and the happiness of a future perspective; it is Phillip himself, however, who reminds the woman of his commitment to Christine, who in a very mature way is giving her boyfriend time to get used to the new condition. Jill is happy to hear from Phillip Jr. that he intends to confirm his relationship with Christine, but for once he agrees with Katherine, who jokingly calls her grandmother, of the need to permanently remove Nina from Phillip Jr.'s life. The two women, therefore, offer Nina the considerable sum of $1 million to leave Genoa City with Chance; a sum that would allow her to raise the child with the best care and comfort. Nina, however, reluctantly rejects the offer, stating that her future is not for sale; and while she is aware that Phillip Jr. currently has a relationship with Christine, she has no intention of giving up her dreams, believing she hopes for her future with Phillip Jr.
