1983 (#14) - Jack's rehabilitation, Ashley's presidency and the investigation into Tom

At the hospital, Jack's still struggling to get better as fast as he can. The risk that his legs may no longer move is a real one and so he constantly undergoes long sessions of physiotherapy and rehabilitation to recover immediately. Meanwhile, John decides to temporarily entrust the presidency to Ashley, which leads Jack to work even harder to recover and regain his rightful place. Carl, meanwhile, is commissioned by John to investigate who may have shot Jack; neither Carl nor Patty remembers what happened. Initially, Carl's suspicions all point to Diane and Jill, although the investigation leads nowhere. Ashley, meanwhile, begins to take more and more power within the company, something that worries Jack, which pushes the doctors to return to work as soon as possible, not wanting to risk being overtaken by his sister in the company hierarchy. Carl's investigations, meanwhile, finally find a breakthrough when he manages to locate the gun from the shooting. This, in fact, was found in the possession of Tom Lamb, a criminal arrested for robbery. Initially investigated for Jack's wounding, Tom is soon recognized as a stranger to the facts and, to the police, confesses to Frank and Carl that he took the gun from a blonde girl, who evidently wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. Carl's suspicions, therefore, lead to the exclusion of Diane and to focus mainly on Jill, ignoring that the real responsibility falls instead on his own daughter.
