Jennifer, extremely determined, informs her daughters that she has decided to divorce their father to live in Chicago with Bruce. Both Leslie and Chris and Lorie are shocked by their mother's decision and try hard to convince her not to divorce Stuart; Jennifer, however, is more convinced than ever. Just as Jennifer is on her way to see Stuart to make him aware of her will, however, Stuart suffers a cardiac arrest. Stuart is immediately taken to the hospital by Brad, where he finds Snapper who literally saves his father-in-law's life by giving him a heart massage and direct injection into his heart. When the whole family arrives at the hospital, Leslie and Chris thank their respective husbands for saving their father, while a confused Jennifer is in guilt over her decision to divorce the man. Ironically, Stuart, still in very serious condition, asks his family to have Bruce Henderson come to town to operate on him, as he is one of the most successful cardiologists in Chicago. Bruce gladly accepts the difficult task of saving Stuart, under the threatening glances of Chris and Leslie who, knowing of the love between their mother and Bruce, intimidate him to stay away from Jennifer and to work instead to save their father's life. Stuart's operation is fortunately going well, but it is Bruce himself who is so sensitive that he realizes that the man's heart could not resist an emotional shock. Bruce thus informs Jennifer of his decision to return to Chicago and break off the relationship with her, with the woman now having to take care of her husband. Heartbroken, Jennifer also realizes that this is the right thing to do at the moment. Once again, the two are forced to be separated by fate, even though their hope for a future together remains unchanged.
