1993 (#7) - The desire for motherhood, John's vasectomy and Jill's pregnancy

After Jack's initial phase of incomprehension about the sudden celebration of the wedding and his fears about Jill's true intentions regarding their heritage, the union between John and Jill seems to be going well. The two find in each other a security and an affinity like few others and Jill, very soon, begins to manifest her desire to enlarge the family. In fact, she doesn't hide her strong desire to have a baby with the man she loves, even if the topic seems completely taboo for John, who has absolutely no intention of becoming a father again, especially since he is now too old to raise a child. The tensions about this topic are obviously reflected upon the marriage. A worried John, thus, finds himself talking about his marital problems with Jack, who advises his father to undergo a vasectomy to avoid any risk. Jill is obviously unaware of all of this, and on the very evening before the day of John's planned vasectomy, she puts into action a plan to seduce the man and get pregnant. Jill, in fact, during dinner, mixes some high-proof alcohol in John's martini who, not very lucid, lets himself go to passion. The following day, on his return from surgery, John decides to confess to his wife his decision. Jill is shocked and furious with her husband, who is accused of lying to her and making fun of her; moreover, Jill finds herself depressed at the prospect of giving up what could be her last chance at motherhood. As the days go by, however, days when Jill even contemplates divorce, feeling unfulfilled by her marriage and unsatisfied in her desire to have a child, Jill's depression turns to endless joy when she begins to experience signs of nausea, dizziness and fatigue: clear symptoms of pregnancy! Ecstatic, Jill discovers that she is expecting a child with John, who is obviously shocked and disappointed by the news. John reiterates his opposition to having a baby, confessing that he no longer feels able, given his age, to take care of a new child; he also insists with his wife on the need to take care of his condition, making a clear reference to the possibility of abortion. Jill, almost subjugated and convinced by John, even goes so far as to make an appointment at the clinic to undergo the procedure; however, in the end, the woman realizes that she cannot give up her child and decides to flatly refuse the abortion, forcing John to choose whether to stay with her, and accept the pregnancy, or to divorce her. Faced with this ultimatum, John is forced to respect his wife's wishes, promising a satisfied Jill that he will stand by her side at all times.
