1992 (#6) - Molly's progress and Lauren's suspicions
Scott and Lauren's misgivings about Sheila's behavior, which is often mysteriously absent without alerting anyone, can obviously be traced to the woman's concern about keeping Scotty's identity a secret. The woman, after having taken Molly to Michigan, however, seems confident that the truth is now safe and says she's ready to concentrate on distracting Scott from Lauren's aims. In Grand Rapids, the small town in Michigan where Molly's home is located, she is assisted by her dear friend Doris Kramer, who is happy to be able to help the woman thanks to the presence of Naomi Russell, a retired speech therapist of their age. Thanks to Naomi's help and lessons, in fact, Molly is slowly regaining the use of speech and Doris is very happy for the woman's improvements. Intent on giving her a pleasant surprise by showing her mother's progress, Doris is happy to see Sheila in front of her; however, when she sees that her mother has improved so much, she seems more nervous than ever. In Genoa City, meanwhile, an insistent Lauren asks Scott where his wife has taken Molly. Scott, however, admits that he doesn't know and imagines that all of Sheila's strange behaviors can be traced back to her relationship with Molly, noting that it is since her arrival in Genoa City that Sheila has begun to take on an unusual attitude. Back in town, Sheila is greeted with love and attention by Scott, who calms her down by informing her that he knows her relationship with Molly is critical, but that won't stop it from ruining their marriage. Sheila then reveals to Scott that their mother is now in Grand Rapids and, implicitly admitting Scott's point, admits that she hopes her mother will no longer be a part of their lives. When Lauren realizes that Scott knows where Molly is, she is disappointed that, despite telling her that she is in Grand Rapids, she refuses to give him the address; Scott, in fact, informs Lauren that he promised Sheila that he would put this whole thing behind him and does not want Lauren to reopen it by going to see Molly. Sheila, however, doesn't give up and sneaks into Scott's office and finds the address in his diary. As soon as she realizes that Lauren is on her way to Grand Rapids to see Molly, Sheila immediately flies to Michigan and manages to arrive before the woman and warn Doris and Naomi that Lauren is on her way. Sheila then begs the two women not to allow Lauren to talk to Molly, Lauren being a very dangerous woman. When Sheila then hears Lauren's car arrive, she puts Molly to sleep with a sedative and hides. Doris and Naomi refuse to let Lauren into the house, admitting that no one is allowed to meet the woman. So, as Molly falls asleep from the sedative, Sheila overhears Lauren loudly asking to see the woman, growing increasingly suspicious of her condition. Lauren, seeing Sheila, asks her what is going on but is forced to leave when Doris calls the police. Sheila is happy that the danger has been averted, but at the same time is very concerned that she probably won't be so lucky next time. Realizing then that Scotty's birthmark might make Lauren suspicious to the point where she realizes the whole truth, she secretly decides to have the baby's birthmark surgically removed.
