Back in Genoa City, Lauren, Paul and Lynne can't wait to put this whole thing behind them. Molly, hosted by her friend Doris, has preferred to stay in Grand Rapids, having no reason to return to Genoa City. Lauren is welcomed back to the city by a still stunned Scott, who struggles to come to terms with what has happened and to digest a year of Sheila's lies. Lauren is then incredulous to embrace Scotty for the first time as her rightful mother of the child, and can't believe that all that has passed is now just a bad memory. Although she feels like she's living in a dream, to her joy everything is reality, and Scotty's maternity test confirms it. It actually clarifies once and for all that the mother of the baby is none other than Lauren. The woman then informs Scott that she wants to obtain legal custody of the child, a more than legitimate request. Lauren, in fact, does not hide from Scott that she wants to give her son a family and informs the man that she hopes there will be room for a second chance. Scott, who thought Lauren was more interested in Paul than him, eagerly agrees to do the right thing and continue where they left off. After clearing the air with Paul, who assures Scott that he is no longer interested in Lauren and that he respects their decision to remarry, and thus declaring Sheila's presumed death with the consequent end of his marriage to the woman, Scott is thus finally a free man. Scott then announces to Lauren that they can finally fulfill their dream of love and get married for the second time. Scott and Lauren declare their love for each other and admit to themselves that they have never really stopped loving each other. Everyone is happy for this marriage, which marks the sweetest and most just conclusion to a sad and dark affair that everyone wants to forget as quickly as possible.
