1992 (#14) - Scotty's biological paternity test and Sheila's manipulations

Back in Genoa City with even more doubts and the only conviction that Sheila is hiding something from her, Lauren immediately goes to Scott and informs him of his wife's strange behavior. The man, however, is annoyed that Lauren has stolen his address and gone to Molly's despite his prayers, so he kicks the woman out, sticking up for Sheila, who is very pleased to hear this argument. Despite Scott's negative reaction, Lauren doesn't give up and is more and more convinced to shed light on the matter, promising herself that she will make Scott open his eyes about the woman he married. So she decides to give a television set to Molly, asking for Paul's help to have it packed and shipped. Both are then surprised when, talking to the courier, he admits that the weather in Michigan is much worse than last year; and when the same man denies that there was a blizzard last winter, Lauren and Paul realize that Sheila lied about the day she gave birth, when she said she was snowed in. At these words, this time it is Scott himself who begins to doubt Sheila, to whom he bluntly asks to be honest and wants to know if she is hiding something. But when Scott mentions a possible divorce, it is Sheila who goes on the counter-attack threatening the man that in this case she would leave town, putting Scott in the untenable position of choosing between Lauren and her son. Paul and Lauren, meanwhile, don't give up and continue their investigations in secret, coming to the conclusion that little Scotty could be at stake in all of this, since Sheila's lies begin at the birth of the child. Sneaking into the gynecology ward at Genoa City Hospital, Lauren and Paul are almost surprised by Scott, who is busy making introductions between his wife and his new assistant, Margie Jennings. She recognizes Sheila as the very woman who had undergone treatment for a miscarriage a year earlier, but Scott insists that Margie is most likely mistaken, as he and Sheila have a beautiful baby boy. At Margie's insistence, it is a pressured Sheila who ends the discussion by silencing Margie and begging her to leave. Sheila thus manages to end the awkward situation, but she has no idea that Paul and Lauren overheard the entire conversation. Completely shocked, the two then come to assume that Scotty may not be Sheila and Scott's son, as their child is dead. Having come to the conclusion that Scotty is probably not Scott's son, Lauren then plans a paternity test for the child, which also involves Sheila, who reluctantly agrees to take the test. The woman, terrified that someone might discover that Scotty's mother is actually Lauren, sneaks into the lab and "accidentally" spills the bottle with her blood, eliminating any danger that the test might be about Scotty's maternity, and not just his paternity. The result of the test, of course, is that Scotty is indeed Scott's son. Lauren, not imagining that Sheila's lies involve more than that, is then devastated when she learns that her suspicions were unfounded. Sheila, ironically, telephones Lauren to thank her for having given her the opportunity to prove to Scott that it is Lauren, not his wife, who is inventing suspicions and lies; Lauren, completely out of her mind, then goes to the hospital in search of the woman with whom, right under the eyes of a bewildered Scott, a furious fight begins between them.
