1991 (#26) - Nikki's difficult journey, Victor's help and promise to Jack

In spite of Nikki's good intentions and all her initial best intentions, she soon interrupts her rehabilitation program and returns to Genoa City. Nikki admits to Jack that she tried but it was all in vain, unable to stay away from alcohol and her painkillers. Jack, as always by his wife's side, promises to once again face the fact that his recovery has failed, although Nikki begins to speculate that there is no hope for her now. Meanwhile, while Jack stands strong in front of his wife to encourage her, on the other hand he feels that he is increasingly losing control of the situation, leading his wife into a phase of self-destruction due to her unhappiness. At the same time, Victor understands that Nikki has a problem with alcohol and instead speculates that the real cause of the woman's malaise is not Jack at all, but the experience of their previous marriage to him, which Nikki has never ceased to regard as her greatest failure in life. Feeling guilty about Nikki's condition, Victor decides to intervene, urging Nikki to pull herself together and emptying all her bottles. Victor apologizes to Nikki for her unhappy marriage and she thanks him, admitting to Jack that neither of them are to blame for her behavior, but she is the one responsible for her actions. Victor ends up bringing Jack and Nikki closer together, and when Nikki decides to go incognito at the grand ball dressed as an angel, she is happy to hear an unsuspecting Jack profess his love for her. It is only at this point that Nikki reveals herself, promising her husband that she will return to the rehabilitation center to completely detoxify.
