Two initially worried Skip and Carol are happy when the doctor confirms to them that Skip's disability is not hereditary and is not a problem for a possible child. Unfortunately, however, the couple have trouble conceiving and soon discover that they cannot have children because Skip is impotent. Despite this umpteenth ordeal, Carol still assures her husband that she loves him, thus suggesting the possibility of adopting a child. Unlucky for them, however, the adoption agencies refuse to grant this possibility to the couple, considering their application unacceptable due once again to Skip's disability. At this point, the man falls into a kind of depression, taken by the anger of not being able to give a family to the woman he loves. This, however, does not give up and, thanks to an incredible tenacity and optimism, promises her husband that their dreams will soon be fulfilled, Carol, thus decides to resort to the rent of the uterus, putting an ad in the newspaper in search of a pregnant woman unwanted and convinced in wanting to give the unborn child a better life than it would be destined. Although Skip is pessimistic about this possibility, soon comes the long-awaited call. To answer the announcement is Nancy Nolan, a young pregnant college student unable to raise her child. Against abortion, Nancy presents herself to Skip and Carol hoping that the couple can welcome and raise her child as their own, with love and generosity. Skip is excited about this wonderful news and together with Carol they already dream of raising the child together. To make sure the pregnancy goes well, and out of a sense of gratitude to the woman, the two finally decide not only to have their gynecologist Anna Stuart visit Nancy, but also to welcome Nancy into their home throughout the pregnancy.
