As the weeks go by, the distance between Jill and John grows further and further. Their love has long since ended, and everyone's goal is to end their marriage with a judicial victory over the amount owed by John to Jill. Michael's lawyer, after receiving the rejection of his initial offer, realizes that he can ask for much more; he promises Jill that the divorce will cost John $5 million plus $150,000 a year in support and maintenance. Jill is enthusiastic about her lawyer, who has now also become her lover; she does not suspect, however, that John has a plan to reverse the dispute. At her lawyer's suggestion, John realizes that the photos of Jill's betrayal would justify the divorce petition, which would make any claim by the other party vain, except for the necessary minimum maintenance claims. So when John asks Katherine to buy her photos, the woman is forced to admit to John that she had them destroyed; Katherine, however, promises John to testify at the divorce hearing, happy to help bring down her bitter enemy. In reality, however, the photos are not destroyed at all. In fact, when Katherine ordered Esther to make them disappear, the woman did not obey and kept them with her, believing that one day they might be useful again. And determined to take advantage of this, Esther began to send anonymous letters to Katherine, created using words cut out from the newspaper, with a request for $100,000 in exchange for the photos. Katherine, however, does not take long to realize that the author of the letters is her own maid Esther, who soon confesses to owning the photos and asks her employer to forgive her by passing on all the photos in her possession.
