Andy, after closing the brief flirtation with Nikki, started dating Jill. What we don't know is that the man is in fact still married, though separated for years, to Karen. Karen is one of the main reasons for disagreement between Jill and Andy, since the woman, despite now frequenting other men, including Lucas, seems not to want to break away from her husband, never agreeing to divorce him. Jill repeatedly incites Andy to convince Karen to insist on ending their marriage, but every Andy's attempt fails miserably, as he is unable to impose himself on the woman, who threatens to kill herself in case of divorce. When Andy tries a new attempt to dissuade the woman from maintaining their legal union, Karen attempts suicide and is only saved by the arrival of Lucas, who promises to make Andy pay for it. Meanwhile, John returns to Genoa City, deeply concerned about his company which, in Jack's hands, is seriously in danger of going bankrupt. John is in fact increasingly aware of his son's ineptitude, as he is as talented with women and entertainment as he is incapable of running the company. Determined to restore credibility, dignity and prestige to his company, John decides to return to closely follow the fate of Jabot Cosmetics and his son, who would like to turn into a great manager who can one day inherit his empire. Upon news of John's return, Jill contacted him immediately to see him; it is clear that the feeling of the first meeting never disappeared between the two. Jill is sorry for Jack's immaturity, but she is happy when John says he is forced to stay in town to watch over him. Andy, meanwhile, finally gets a divorce from Karen, but is disappointed to see that Jill canceled a date with him to have dinner with John. This, surprisingly, confesses to her that he's still in love with her. Jill's confusion then escalates when Andy announces that he is overjoyed to finally get a divorce and, pulling out the ring, proposes to her to get married. Jill, in disbelief, accepts the marriage proposal, then confessing to John that she has moved on with her life and that she has decided to marry Andy. As time goes by, however, Jill's doubts grow as she begins to deal with Andy's financial problems, a nice guy who doesn't have a home and a steady job. This situation contrasts with John's wealth and his prospects for life and stability. When Andy announces that he is happy to have found a job as a physical education teacher, Jill shows her reluctance to marry and encourages Andy to look for a more profitable job. When Andy then suggests Jill live with her mother Susan Richards to save money, Jill is now convinced that John would be able to give her everything she ever wanted in life, so Jill makes the decision to break off the relationship with a disconsolate Andy and return with a mature but rich man like John.
