1974 (#9) - Marianne’s intromissions and the tragical death of Pierre

In the meantime, Sally's life is also forced to endure a sudden break-in; it is obviously that her husband's sister : Marianne, who has never felt any affinity for Sally and that does not take long to realize that Sally is not pregnant with her brother, but with Snapper. Sally begs Marianne to keep it to herself, but she immediately runs to Stuart to reveal it to him, making the man believe that Snapper is a worthless little bastard who doesn't deserve his daughter. She decides not to reveal anything to Chris anyway, as she would suffer too much. Tired of seeing his sister meddling in his private affairs, Pierre gives Sally a great gift by sending Marianne away and making her return to Paris. Sally's precarious balance, though she's beginning to love Pierre, is tragically upset by a dramatic event. One night, after closing the restaurant, a criminal enters the restaurant and attacks Pierre, who is violently hit in the head by the robber. Taken immediately to hospital, Pierre is in critical condition for several days in a state of semi-consciousness. Marianne, as soon as she heard about it, promptly returned to Genoa City, even though Sally had told her it was not necessary. The honest and naive intentions of Sally, who believed that Pierre would soon recover and start his recovery, are not understood by Marianne, who is furious with Sally and finds new reasons to hate her. In any case, Pierre regains consciousness, though for a short time and tells Sally he loves her. But just when nobody expects it, Pierre dies. The first to notice this is Sally herself, who only realizes after a few hours that her husband was not asleep as she thought, but had passed away. Completely shocked and desperate, Sally lets herself go in a heartbreaking cry and only with the arrival of Snapper she convinces herself to leave the hospital. Marianne, who had just learned from a nurse about her brother's death, sees them and, enraged, pulls out all the repressed hatred for Sally and the accusation that she doesn't give a damn about her husband's death and that she has already forgotten him. Marianne then promises Sally, despite Snapper himself tries to bring Marianne to her senses, explaining what happened, that she would make Sally pay for it.
