Completely alone along the way, Brad stops a truck driver, asks him for a ride, in this way he’s able to get near around Genoa city. He enters Pierre’s restaurant for refreshment, but when the waitress Sally Mc Guire presents him with the bill, Brad says he doesn’t have the money to pay. His behavior and confidence capture Stuart Brooks’ attention, publisher and owner of Genoa City Chronicle, who was sitting in a nearby table, who doesn’t waste time and immediately befriends the mysterious stranger. Stuart pays Brad’s bill and after after a few minutes of conversation offers him a job in his newspaper, giving him a salary advance and then advising him to rent one of the rooms above the restaurant. Brad gladly accepts and so, after agreeing with Pierre Roulland, the owner of the restaurant and the motel, who loves to entertain guests with his voice as he is a discreet singer, he becomes Sally’s next room neighbor.
