Left completely alone, with the pain of the death of her little girl and the responsibility of a baby on the way, Sally consoles herself with Pierre's friendship. Pierre, unaware of the woman's pregnancy, proposes going to Paris as a leisure trip to find a smile again. When Sally passes out, in the presence of Pierre, through a trusted doctor, Pierre is informed that Sally is pregnant. Coming back to the United States, Sally admits her pregnancy to Pierre, who, surprisingly, asks her to marry him, to make sure that the baby would have a name and more importantly, a father. Sally eventually decides to accept the proposal, convinced by the need to give a father to the unborn child. Pierre's sister, Marianne Roulland, thinks his brother is making a big mistake, and tries to convince him not to let himself guided by pity by a girl, that in her opinion, is an easy one good for nothing, but Pierre, firm on his decision, is perfectly aware that he’s doing the right thing. He and Sally pronounced their marital vows in a very intimate ceremony, and became husband and wife with Brad as best man.
