1993 (#23) - Carol and Skip's departure and John and Ashley's return to Jabot

Upon Victor's return to Genoa City, the relationship between Ashley and Blade is put to the test for the first time. The woman, in fact, determined with her father not to overlook Jack's expulsion, decides to resign from her position at Jabot; a gesture that Blade, on the contrary, decides not to make, becoming, moreover, one of the key men in the new organizational structure of Victor's presidency. Blade and Ashley, however, despite their professional disagreements, promise each other that work matters will not interfere with their romantic relationship, which in fact happens. The relationship and the mutual feelings between the two of them, therefore, prove to be much stronger than either of them could have imagined, thus reinforcing the conviction of the two of them in continuing to organize their marriage. As time goes on, moreover, Blade plays a key role in convincing both Ashley and John to put aside their personal resistance and return to their family business, despite Victor's continued strong policy of keeping rival Jack out of Jabot. Blade and Victor's pressure to get John and Ashley back to work is obviously motivated by their professionalism, experience and love for their company; but, more concretely, it is also motivated by Victor's real needs, as he is forced to replace two important members of the company staff, Carol and Skip, who announce to everyone that they have decided to leave Genoa City to go to Philadelphia, where they plan to start a new life and raise little Skylar together. Taking the place previously occupied by Skip and Carol is Blade, who chivalrously gives up his seat on the board of directors of the company in favor of John and Ashley. The new company organization chart is thus defined only a few days after the departure of Carl and Robbins, who are embraced and greeted by the entire company in a moving farewell ceremony.

1990 (#12) - Jeff's paternity test, Nancy's relinquishment, and Skylar's custody

Although Nancy had to say goodbye to Skylar, she still misses her daughter very much. Moreover, she has a strong suspicion that the father of her child is actually her ex-boyfriend, Jeff Latham. And so, when Nancy tracks down Jeff and confesses to him the real reason why she left school, that is that she was pregnant, the boy is shocked, and even more so when Nancy reveals that the reason why she preferred to leave him is that she was raped. Nancy thus informs the boy that until now she has believed that the father of the child is her rapist; however, she now believes that there is some possibility that it is him. Jeff, happy for the woman's choice to have kept the child, thus offers to perform the paternity test. Nancy, however, believes it is all useless since she has given him up for adoption, but Jeff points out that if he is indeed the father of the child, he may object by cancelling the adoption. After performing the test, Jeff and Nancy are happy to learn that Jeff is Skylar's father, and so they take custody of Skylar away from the distraught Skip and Carol, who vow to fight to get the baby back. Meanwhile, Nancy and Jeff, who are back together and seem more in love and happy than ever, find themselves struggling with family life and discover that it's not as easy as they thought. Nancy and Jeff are young and, despite their good intentions and their willingness, they bitterly discover that the weight of responsibilities and sacrifices that a life as parents entails is perhaps too much for them, who still want to live carefree. As if that weren't enough, this frustration shows up in ongoing tensions between the two of them, who eventually admit that they still don't know what their path is and show doubts about their love. Having realized that they are not yet ready to raise a daughter, therefore, by mutual agreement Nancy and Jeff return to Skip and Carol asking them if the offer of foster care is still acceptable. Taken aback, two incredulous but overjoyed Skip and Carol immediately accept and prepare the custody papers, thanking Nancy and Jeff profusely and promising that they will always be there for them when they want to see their daughter. Skip and Carol's wish to become parents finally came true.

1990 (#9) - Skip and Carol's fears, Nancy's second thoughts and Skylar's birth

As the months go by, Nancy's pregnancy almost comes to an end, which makes Skip and Carol increasingly excited about finally becoming parents. However, the couple can't help but be concerned that Nancy may develop a bond with her baby and, therefore, not respect the pact by deciding to keep the unborn child. Despite Nancy calming the couple, in fact, it is evident that Nancy's desire for motherhood is growing more and more. Shortly before giving birth, Nancy confesses to Carol that she has decided to give the baby away as she had been raped; however, in the last few days, the suspicion that the baby might actually be her ex-boyfriend's, Jeff Latham, creeps in. However, the long-awaited day finally arrives, and Nancy gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, whom she decides to name Skylar. Nancy's joy, however, lasts a few moments, since as soon as she is discharged from the hospital Skip makes her understand that he has no intention to host her any longer, making her understand that he wants to respect the contract and that, therefore, the girl's task is over. Nancy protests, wanting to be close to the baby at least for the duration of breastfeeding, but Carol tries to make her understand that it is better to avoid that the woman gets too attached to her daughter. Reluctantly, Nancy is forced to say goodbye to her daughter, promising that she will never forget her.
