1991 (#7) - Nikki's addiction and Jack's closeness
Despite the fact that it has been almost a year since Nikki's dramatic fall from a horse and the miscarriage that resulted in the loss of her baby, Nikki cannot get over this difficult time in her life. Now addicted to the painkillers she takes for her back, the woman has also started drinking. And all this in spite of the close and constant presence of Jack, who doesn't stop showing himself to be the caring husband he has always been and doesn't hide his concerns about the dangers of combining painkillers and alcohol. Despite all of Jack's efforts and his pleas to his wife to stop drinking, Nikki is unable to find happiness and a point of balance; and when she promises Jack to stop drinking, emptying out the entire liquor cabinet in front of him, the woman seems to be truly convinced of his intentions, except for taking refuge in her upstairs hideout where she keeps a secret stash of her own. The point of no return for Jack happens when, urgently warned by the nanny Mimi Dullister, the man finds his wife passed out on the floor completely drunk; not at all angry for his broken promises, Jack helps the woman to recover but warns her that from that moment on she would have to rely on a specialized center to stop drinking. Jack convinces Nikki to enter a rehabilitation program in New York, promising to keep the real reason for their trip a secret from everyone. Nikki's departure leaves Victor curious, but he is increasingly convinced that things are going well between the two of them, which leads him to focus even more on his marriage to Ashley.
