In Genoa City, meanwhile, the event of the year is certainly the great masked ball organized by John and Katherine for charity. Katherine and John have always been great friends, since their school days, and have now become two pillars of the city. They decide to put their forces together to organize a big event able to raise funds for the most needy people and, why not, to get positive publicity. Everyone is happy for the initiative and is looking forward to this unmissable event. In the meantime Rex, having put aside his adventure with Leanna, has now come to the conclusion that the only woman for him is Katherine herself, whom he has never stopped loving. In spite of some external factors that led him to move away from her, in fact, Rex is now firmly convinced that his destiny is at her side; something that Katherine also thinks. Both, thus, begin to enjoy each other's company again. Rex's feelings and hopes for a possible reunion come to an abrupt halt when he notices that Katherine seems to be spending a lot of time with her new flame, a certain Edward. Rex's embarrassment for this situation goes on for some time, until he discovers that Edward Carpenter is none other than an actor hired by Katherine for the sole purpose of making him jealous. Having discovered the game, Rex decides to start having some fun himself, answering back at Katherine's expense. When Katherine finds herself in front of a hospital bed to wake up her beloved Rex, who seems to be suffering from chest pains, Rex laughs his ass off until Jill discovers the trick. Katherine shows that she didn't appreciate Rex's joke at all, although soon her anger melts into a big smile along with the love of her life, Rex, with whom she begins a new relationship.
