1991 (#12) - Paul and Lauren's bond, Sheila's abortion and the exchange with Dylan

Sheila's mom, Molly Haastrich, arrives in Genoa City and is very happy to learn that her daughter is expecting a child with the man she loves. Sheila then as she sits alone tells herself that she will never allow Lauren to interfere in her life with Scott, and is happy that the woman seems to have now given up on telling the man the truth about the paternity of her son. Lauren's son that Scott, of course, attributes to Paul; suspicions even more reinforced by the fact that it's at this very moment that Paul and Lauren, who needs more than anything else to forget about Scott, are getting closer again, something that certainly doesn't please a frustrated Lynne. And this fact, of course, does nothing but bring Scott even closer to Sheila. The latter meanwhile has a very difficult pregnancy. When Sheila inadvertently slips down the stairs, she immediately runs to the hospital, where doctors manage to save the baby. Scott promises her that he will always be there for her, but the doctors warn Sheila that at this point the pregnancy is at risk. Soon, when Sheila begins to feel unwell, and begins to feel that she is in labor prematurely, she immediately realizes the seriousness of the situation. Unbeknownst to everyone, Sheila goes to the hospital, where she loses the baby she was expecting. The woman, however, convinced that she cannot have a future with Scott without her child, decides not to tell anyone about the abortion, continuing to pretend to be pregnant using a pillow. When the date of the alleged birth approaches, Sheila leaves town under the eyes of a bewildered Scott and pretending to have gone to see her mother. Sheila then contrives with Scott that a blizzard prevented her from returning home, happily informing him that the two of them had a baby. Sheila, in the meantime, meets with a corrupt lawyer, Mark Wagner, who, in exchange for money, provides her with a child through black adoptions. Wanting to raise Scott's child, however, Sheila, on her way home, goes to the nursery where Lauren's baby is and exchanges Lauren's baby for the one she just took. When the baby is brought to her, Lauren is suspicious as she doesn't see a birthmark that her baby had at the time of birth, but the doctors and personal nurse Margie Jennings, the same obstetrician who handled Sheila's abortion, convince her that this is natural since it can happen to young children to lose or acquire birthmarks in a short time. Thrilled, however, to have what she believes to be her son, Lauren decides to name the baby Dylan Fenmore. Sheila meanwhile returns home with Lauren's baby pretending it is hers and is greeted by a very happy and excited Scott. Sheila, as a sign of love and devotion to the man, decides to name him Scott Jr, or rather Scotty. But neither Lauren nor Scott imagine what Sheila is responsible for.
