The consequences of the fall from the horse, for Nikki, were disastrous to say the least. The loss of the baby she was carrying, in fact, leads Nikki into a very critical and destabilizing situation, as she enters into a serious state of depression that Jack is unable to counteract in any way. As if that were not enough, Nikki begins to suffer from severe back pains that prevent her from moving and even getting out of bed. The situation, of course, is a new reason for clash between Victor and Jack, who exchange mutual accusations of being responsible for Nikki's debilitating condition. Nikki, meanwhile, categorically refuses to undergo back surgery, thus risking becoming paralyzed in her lower limbs. Nikki, however, reassures Jack that everything will be fine, since instead of undergoing the operation, which the doctors have defined as unnecessary, the woman can opt to take painkillers, taking care not to move from her bed. Unfortunately, however, Nikki soon finds herself addicted to these drugs, which do nothing but worsen the woman's state of depression. In the meantime, Nikki's misadventures aside, Victor and Ashley have some intense moments together as newlyweds. They both agree that they love each other more than they ever suspected, and that they have a mutual respect for each other; and Victoria, from Switzerland, confesses to her father that she is disappointed about her marriage to Ashley, saying that she would have preferred a reconciliation with Nikki.
