Jessica's life, since her arrival in Genoa City, has been completely upset in a positive way by the reconciliation with her daughter and the unexpected and pleasant relationship she had with John. Surrounded by affection and friendship with Katherine, Jessica could not have wished for anything better. Unfortunately, however, it is the nightmare of illness that hangs over her happiness. The woman's fears materialize when Dr. Scott Grainger is forced to tell Jessica that her condition is not improving at all, in fact it is getting worse faster than expected. The woman, determined not to give John and Christine any displeasure, decides to leave her loved ones and her affections, without telling them the real reason for her intention to leave, despite Katherine's persistent attempts to change her mind. Intent on going to Kansas City to die alone, but happy to have received love in this brief interlude in Genoa City, Jessica leaves a note of farewell at Katherine's house and goes to the airport, where she is struck by a crisis and faints. Taken to the hospital, where she is joined by Katherine, Jessica is convinced by the woman and Scott to reveal the truth about her condition to Christine. The girl, devastated and with tears in her eyes, informs John of her mother's condition and the man, not losing heart, amazes Jessica with a new proposal. So, as soon as Jessica's condition allows her to leave the hospital, John and Jessica celebrate their marriage in an intimate atmosphere under the moved eyes of Katherine, Christine and John's children, Ashley, Traci and Jack, who witness the two newlyweds' promises of unconditional love.
