1984 (#7) - Liz's work at the Chancellor estate and Jill's fake pregnancy
More and more discouraged by John's ambiguous behavior, who doesn't defend her enough in front of Dina's eyes, with whom she cultivates an increasingly special relationship, Jill understands that her marriage to John is increasingly in danger. So she decides that the only way to keep John to herself and strengthen her marriage is as a child. However, despite her best efforts, Jill cannot get pregnant. During a phone call to England with her mother Liz, Jill expresses without hesitation her dissatisfaction with the fact that she cannot give John their child. Liz blames her daughter's behaviour, who has no intention of saying anything to John about her willingness to get pregnant, only to inform him after the pregnancy is confirmed, claiming that this will only cause her trouble. Jill also confesses to her mother about Dina's attempts to get her ex-husband back and, therefore, to break up her marriage, and she is also suspicious of Katherine, convinced that she is a valuable ally of Dina's in the fight against her. Liz thus promises to help Jill, assuring her that she will return to the city to actually try to find out if Jill's suspicions are well-founded. Once in town, Liz immediately went to Katherine, recovering from her facelift operation, convincing her to hire her as a housekeeper, both to give her company and to help her throughout her convalescence. Jill thanks her mother for her support but, finding herself increasingly surrounded and under pressure, she decides to take the initiative by announcing to everyone that she is expecting a son from John, even though it is not true. Jill is counting on the fact that before everyone knows she is lying, she may actually become pregnant. This decision reminds her of her and Stuart's passing with her and makes her promise that this time she won't let go of the man she loves.
