1984 (#5) - Traci's paranoia about her weight and diet and Mamie's concerns
Dina's return to the family and the realization of her dream of joining Danny's group are two events that upset the life of the very young Traci, who soon finds herself facing very difficult problems and events. Since joining the band, Traci, madly in love with Danny, has had to fight for his attentions. Things obviously got complicated when the beautiful and enterprising Lauren, her rival as a singer and especially as Danny's aspiring girlfriend, appeared. Dina's arrival in the city, therefore, only adds to the stress of the young girl, who is increasingly covered with attention from the woman, who would immediately like to be welcomed back by the girl as her mother. In truth, Traci does not hide her hatred for her mother, accused of having abandoned her since she was a child; hatred that only increases when she points out that she should make more movement to take off the extra pounds. Slimming down, after all, has always been Traci's first and only goal, and he knows he has to get there as soon as possible before Lauren can steal Danny from him. She was struck hard by her own feelings when a poisonous Lauren highlighted Traci's slim line in front of everyone, and she, humiliated in public, ran away crying. Danny is furious at Lauren's lack of delicacy, and apologizes to Traci, who thanks him. However, knowing that Lauren is much more attractive and sophisticated than she is, Traci starts a strict diet on a very strict regimen, also flanking numerous physical exercises, all in the hope that Danny will notice her. As the weeks go by, meanwhile, Mamie becomes constantly apprehensive about Traci's lack of appetite, asking only for salads on the few days she doesn't fast. The diet, while beginning to show its first effects, is not able to satisfy Traci, who decides to start taking slimming pills without everyone knowing it, on the advice of Sparky Wade and Vinnie Irving, two students, two boyfriends and two college friends... who soon turn out to be nothing more than pushers!
